Flowery izakaya

Flowery izakaya

After all the excitement of archery in Tokyo, the sports team rewarded itself with a Japanese meal.

A restaurant recommended by Takaki, not only a great amateur archer but most of all a great sport, a pleasant and laid back Japanese soul, we had just met that day.

At the Japanese izakaya, we started to scan the enormous drinks selection. This girly berry cocktail was sweet and didn’t disappoint. More so, the drink surprised with its name.

It was called Amazon.

Whatever the name givers had in mind, it very much fit the day of archery and us girls pretending to be superhuman females. Obviously excelling at the bow’n’arrow sport.

Mai, aiming single eyed (nothing else) with her drink for brave Amazons.

More fluids were consumed and more delicious meals appeared on the table, as Mai and Takaki ordered all the good stuff from the izakaya menu. By that I mean, veggie friendly food.

Like fish, soft tofu, mushroom hot pot, dips, tamago rolls, fried tofu variations, cheesecake on waffle, macha jello with sweet beans on vanilla icecream, …

More exciting drinks.

Sake. Generously poured over this interesting dish tower. Sake was seriously dripping all the way down onto the plate.

Mission impossible. Even when you have the power of a knight and potential of an Amazon.

Another of my favourite drinks. Cassis with oolong tea.

Time flew by fast as we finished our sake cups and continued important discussions we were all engrossed in – world peace, global travel, ethics in carrying the Kanda Shrine, breasts and Amazons…. Everyone was happy.

At the end of our visit, just as we were leaving the restaurant, the Amazons got flowery presents.

But hey, we are Amazons, we are (beginning) archers, which are not flowery at all. Hm.

What a dilemma. We were debating what to do.

Mai checked what to do with flowers, if you are an aspiring Amazon.

She got it!

Amazons in Tokyo are more on the kawaii side…

Finally, we thought that maybe the best idea would be to make someone else happy. Like one of those sleeping salary men sitting next to us on the train.

Yes, that’s the plan! Let’s do it. Amazons are strong but pretty clever, too.

Anyhow, apart from flowers, we saw this book at one vintage shop in the area, Takaki had thoughtfully pointed out after he heard about my obsession with second hand shops in Tokyo.

Travelling isn’t cheap but living on the road (the PT way) does not have to be more expensive than what you would spend at home.  And I would have never done archery in Tokyo if we hadn’t left our comfy home.
