My colour/cosmetics obsessions spring/summer 2013
Black and white in a bit of a punk inspired fashion is the way to go for spring and summer this year.
A must pattern for black and white, apart from stripes, stars and crosses, is the houndstooth. Characterized by broken checks, it forms an abstract four-pointed shape, that is classy and timeless.
I love to break up my fashion foible of black and white combinations with a touch of gold.
Recently, I got comfy black New Balance sneakers with a gold logo in Seoul in preparation for our intense Taiwan-Thailand-Macao-Hong Kong route.
To neutralize the sporty-sneakers look, I got a perfectly long and flowing black skirt and a black easy-to-wear dress on our last days in Seoul. So much for the feet. For eyes, I am adding a bit of lush gold eye shadow. New additions are also black and gold nailpolishes from Seoul.
For jewellery, I am happily wearing the coolest present surprise from two girls we met in Taipei – a golden ring forming two skulls holding a pearl!
My other obsessions are sailor themed outfits with cherry red and navy blue accents.
While in Tokyo, I spotted the reddest red lipstick, Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter Candy Apple. I got it mainly for the fantastic colour but was really surprised that it doesn’t wear off too fast. It has a very creamy, balmy texture and is so soft that it is hard to apply to the lips without a lip brush. There is no need to top it up with gloss, giving glamorous red lips right away.
If you prefer the sassy wet lips effect you can put some lip gloss on top. I am using Lancome Juicy Tubes for some lip attention. It was a present from my friend Monia who gave me this sweet looking tiny tube, ideal for travel. It does what I need when I don’t want heavy make up. The light peachy gloss gives the lips a nice glow. It has micro glitter and does feel a bit sticky, additional to a heavy bubble gum fruity scent (luckily fades fast). A splash on the lips is plenty.
I am addicted to my chapsticks and always put on a base of lip balm underneath the lipstick as a protective cover before I go out during the day. I hate the feeling of dry lips and also apply lip balm before I go to sleep. A real addict!
After using Blistex balm for ages (Tomek did not like the medical smell of it at all) , I am now hooked on my Shiseido Moilip from Tokyo which is simply fabulous (non scented, smooth and nutritious). I had some trial and error stages with Burt’s Bees chapstick from Cambridge’s Boots (the pomegranate oil scent is awfully strong) and Neutrogena Intense Repair lip balm from Szczecin’s Rossmann drug store (I had to apply every hour or so).
Back to red. I use red nailpolish from Max Factor Red Carpet Glam to complement red lips or outfits. I am very happy with the colour which just needs one coat for a full look. The only drawback with this nailpolish is that it wears off way too quickly.
For eyes, apart from the gold glimmer, I use my new massive midnight Clinique eyeshadow chubby stick, matching sailor inspired outfits. The Clinique eyeshadow chubby sticks series is fantastic, absolutely easy to apply and fun to smudge and wear.
Anyway, I feel like I have changed a lot after we started traveling. Red lips, blue eye shadow and short skirts. Who would have thought!
Here is proof.
