Island of LOVE
If you feel madly in love, encounter butterflies in your stomach and ongoing enchantment produces a bright smile on your face, then chances are that you are on the island of Koh Samui.
Looking out from the hotel terrace I can see the young and beautiful celebrating their bodies, sunbathing and sea dipping at dreamy silver beach. With water as clear as crystal, wide bays with hot white sand, juicy coconuts, couples enjoying shady palm spots, tattooed torsos emitting manly testosterone, taint beauties lolling on the beach, there is a lot of Eros in the air.
Koh Samui fits you with pink glasses to see an amorous world whenever you are ready to receive its gift of
love enormous genitals. It so happens that nature has shaped the rocky shores of Koh Samui into depictions of what locals call Hinta and Hinyai, meaning grandfather and grandmother rock. In Thailand ‘Yai’ is the word for grandmother and the grandfather is called ‘Ta’. The word for rock and stone is ‘Hin’, hence the names Hinta Hinyai.
Could be the work of Michelangelo but nature’s hand itself has carved those gigantic sculptures of male and female genitals. You can marvel at laid back grandma and erect grandpa at the southern end of Lamai beach which is also a popular viewpoint on the island.
Koh Samui has got some serious phallic tendencies with impressive (sculptures of) male organs hidden on the island. If you are going to explore Koh Samui on your own, then spotting erotic allusions and carvings is a fun thing to do.
One is shaken by the wind, one is standing steady.
Something this proud deserves a kiss.

We drove around the island on our rented motorbike, when we stumbled upon this fine sculpture standing tall.
We spotted vivid Kamasutra carvings at the Fine Art and Cultural Centre.
The ‘Orgasmic’ is looking for staff.
This lonely heart was just resting in the sand.
So was this coral.
Even the leaves are heart shaped.
Then there was this impassioned couple on paradise beach. They have been together for over 16 years now and know how to spell LOVE (in capital letters!).
